I think this will be a wonderful gem in the booming Westboro community.

While giving immediate access to all the grocery stores, speciality stores, restaurants and bars that so define Westboro, the nine-story condominium will also offer immediate access to the leisure bike/strolling paths of Island Park Drive and the recreational areas of the Ottawa River, to name just a few of the scenic outdoor spaces available.

As for development nearby, this is to be expected with a site that is 300m from a soon to be opened LRT station. Furthermore, the design of the building appears to take full account of the development that will be occurring only to the west on Scott Street. The south side, where the lounging balconies are to be located, will have an uninterrupted view of the adjacent residential area. The east side, immediately next to the Larco townhouses, will not see any development, ever. Similarly, the north side, where the floor to ceiling windows will offer sweeping views of the Gatineau Hills and Ottawa River, will not see any development due to the already existing homes and townhouses (the Minto Metropole is to the west of the Surface Developments project).

I think the Surface Developments condo will be more than well-placed to benefit from and to contribute to the future of Westboro

Only the west side will see in time future condo towers, as is in keeping with the LRT station in the area. However, the Surface Developments building has no significant orientation to the west and so these developments will be largely ‘out of sight and out of mind’.
